Seven on Saturday..just for kicks :)

1. Fred and I bought a ton of wood on Friday so we could make the shelves in the playroom/office and one more in the closet. I still have to get some for the laundry/mudroom, but with wood, brackets, wiring for the new plug, paint for the wood, etc it was getting a tad expensive. He cut it this afternoon after drill and I put three coats of semi-gloss white on both sides. I'm going to do the edges tomm while he's at "work" and then we'll hang them tomm. night. I can't wait for the storage. Eventually we'll build a cubby/window seat area in the playroom side, but for right now, this will be a huge improvement.
2. Fred drilled today with the Georgia National Guard. :) At this point, I think the Chinese Army would be better than the NC Guard, so anything is an improvement. They were actually nice. Hard to believe given everything he's been through lately. He has drill again tomm with them and then we are back to waiting for his orders. He didn't want NC to have any chance to give him an AWOL so he worked it out to drill here instead of having to drive him (since he's still in his neck brace)back to Greenville. Plus, if they don't get moving on these orders, he gets paid for the drill and every penny counts!
3. I'm participating in a craft show in December. Kaitlin and I are sewing toys - we started some today. We are making crayon rolls, car rolls, roll-up play mats (perfect for restaurants)in a pirate theme, a horse theme and a car theme (so far..we're working on more), fabric baby blocks in sets of three (I made one last night - so cool!), I SPY bags, and fabric dollhouses. We'll probably add some more things as we go, but that's our list for now. She'll get a percentage of the profit...which I had to explain to her meant AFTER all the expenses are covered.
4. The parts place sent the wrong transmission kit so we are waiting until Monday or Tuesday for the van. He was hoping to get it done on Friday, but they couldn't get the replacement kit fast enough. That's okay though - I was expecting it to be a week anyway.
5. Emma is one week away from her first report card. I can't believe she's that old already.
6. On that same note, she had a pumpkin carving date with the boy next door tonight. They went and got a ton of pumpkins and Jackson invited her over to carve one with him. She was so cute about it. : ) They meet "at the fence" in the backyard all of the time. Part of our yard has a privacy fence by the driveway so you can't see over it, but the backyard behind the garage and around the play area has a lower picket fence and they can talk over it. It's so funny to hear them say to each other "Meet me at the fence". Ah, to be young.
7. I still can't find a couch...Jenny, we might be sitting on the floor for Thanksgiving. Bean bag chairs anyone?

10 on Tuesday

It's still Tuesday since I haven't gone to bed yet :)
1. I just spent an hour (actually an hour and 10 minutes and then I handed the phone to Fred b/c I was going to strangle the person on the other end) with Verizon. $161 in credits later because they screwed up the bill and charged us for texts, data, etc when it's unlimited AND NC taxes on a Georgia phone bill....I'm still pacing. Crazy!!
2. Tommorrow is Fred's last official paycheck unless the Army steps up and does what they are supposed to (according to their own regulations). We are still pending his medical hold unit so we are pending life right now. Fun times. Have I mentioned that I am really despising the National Guard right now. Really. Used to be a big supporter. Now..not so much...or at all.
3. The van is being fixed as we speak..well, not really as we speak, because it's 12:07 am and I doubt they are still working there...maybe?
4. Abby has a double ear infection. Different antibiotic this time. Hopefully this will knock it out. Joey's on the same one for his minor brochial infection..thank you little boy in his preschool class that will remain nameless..John.
5. She decided today was the day to get off her booty and walk. Seriously walking. She's been ABLE to do it for awhile now, but apparently the waiting room of the doctor's office was prime walking territory. She must have completed about 10 laps. She actually ran (I use the word loosely) to see me when I got home from picking up Kaitlin tonight.
6. Can you believe that Kaitlin sent like 347 texts in about 2 weeks. And I can't get her to write a book report. Maybe if I have her text it to me? ;-)
7. I found a front hall table at the local thrift store. It's perfect and exactly what I was looking for. I can't wait to attack it with a paint brush! Next week hopefully!
8. I have hung sticker charts all over the house. Good behavior, teeth brushing, potty charts, staying in bed. My boys (and girls) are big believers in stickers..hopefully they will continue to be. I like sleep.
9. I need to start working on Halloween costumes..everyone is getting old enough to request things now. Yikes! Kaitlin is going to be a sweet tooth - a cardboard cut-out of a tooth for her front and back with candy glued to it (simple, thank goodness!), Emma is going to be the Statue of Liberty (she's always going to be my little oddball :), Owen is a hockey player (Ward to be exact..), Joey wants to be a ghost..or Thomas..or a lego..or an insert favorite item of the day here...and Abby doesn't care much. I'm working on deciding for her...
10. I got emails from Jenny and Eileen confirming holiday plans and I am SO excited to see everyone!!!! :) Can't wait for the holidays! It was actually a little chilly here today and the leaves were blowing around - made me so excited for the change of seasons!

15 on Friday...

Because I missed Tuesday :)
1. They are driving me nuts with not going to bed....seriously nuts.
2. They are all getting sick. Joey and Emma had low fevers tonight and now Abby is getting fussy...joy.
3. Fred spent 5 hours..yes, 5..in the ER here today. Only to have the dr. tell him he couldn't really tell if anything was wrong with his fusion, but he'd send the x-rays to the Ortho in Raleigh. Thanks....We could have driven to Raleigh and had x-rays in 5 freakin' hours!!!
4. Still no couch..although Craigslist has a contender. Just trying to decide if it's longer than I want.
5. I love the new season of shows. I hate that Private Practice and the Mentalist are on the same time. If I had to pick, it would be the Mentalist. There's just something about it that makes me laugh.
6. The sump pump guy AND the person from the town came today and both are going to solve the drainage problem we are having! The town is putting in a storm drain and the sump pump company is moving the drain to tie in with it so it doesn't flood the driveway/garage. We will put in some landscaping in the front to help route the water from the road towards the drains and put in a french drain in the back to help there. Problems solved...and relatively inexpensively on our part - thank god!
7. The transmission is 99% shot..we had it diagnosed on Monday. 9 error codes. 9!! I think that might be a record or something. All 4 shift solenoids (the little computers inside the transmission) are going, the main solenoid is going(the one that tells the 4 what to do), the torque converter (who the heck knows what this does), something else, a brake switch (which isn't really an issue but the transmission is making it an issue), and something else transmission related. So it's a complete rebuild...$1800. But the shop we found is extremely helpful and willing to work with us. He even offered us to leave it (so it didn't do more damage) and he or one of the guys would run us home. We had to bring it home because we have to wait for the outcome on Fred's orders before we commit $2000 to a car we may not need if he's not working, so Mike called to make sure we made it home safely. SO NICE! If you are in Augusta (ha) and need car work, this is your guy.
8. I decorated for Halloween - partly. I did the haybales and pumpkin stuff. I'll add the spooky stuff next week. Happy compromise.
9. I painted almost all of Kaitlin's room and decorated with her new bedding - she loved it! (thank you aunt Eileen). She's already planning her shopping spree for everything else! (thank you double G, Grandma King and Jenny/Aiden/Jamie!) Pictures to follow soon.
10. We got her a cell phone for her birthday. Mainly because she's at tumbling class until 8:15 and I wanted her to have a way to call me if she needed me. And she'll have it when she's out with friends. I figure better safe than sorry.
11. She's driving me crazy with the texting.
12. My office plans are moving right along. Time to build the wall. I'm repurposing an old door to make a half wall. I'm feeling crafty and thrifty.
13. I finished my first sewing project. A pair of pj pants for Kaitlin. They are so cute! I already have my next 3 projects picked out! Can't wait!
14. I feel like baking. Not just baking some cookies, but seriously baking huge amounts of cookies, cupcakes and goodies.
15. I already have all of the kids next birthday parties planned. I know..I'm insane. We have a Lego party, a Candy Land party, a Cookie Monster Party, a Barnyard Themed Party, and a Rock Star/Guitar Party. I have them all plotted out..down to the favors.
And a Bonus:
16. My next class is cake decorating. I'm so excited! : )

Happy Fall!

Change of plans...

Well, after unsuccessfully trying to configure all the activities into my closet..um, office...I've decided that it's time to teach the kids a lesson in sharing. :) I think I'm going to divide the current playroom into two rooms with one simple wall across the middle (well, not really the middle..they'll get a little bit bigger space than me.) Then they will have a playroom, I will have an office/sewing/scrapbooking room AND we will have a closet completely dedicated to storing games, art supplies, fabric, gift wrap, art supplies, art supplies and art supplies. This has several good points..I won't have to use the dining room table to cut/measure fabric thus being spread over two rooms and compromising dinner time (since you know we ALWAYS eat at home ;-), I'm close to Abby when she's in the playroom portion playing rather than across the house in my closet. Running a phone line will be easier for Fred. It already has electric plugs I can use. It has TWO big windows instead of one little one. So, am I wrong for taking half of their space? They have their rooms, the yard and a playroom....Fred has the garage completely dedicated to workshop since it's older and the doors are not tall enough for the van (even though we could change them and solve that problem). I think I deserve more than a closet (Fred tried to get me to use a different space to begin with, it's the kids I feel guilty about). Why do we do that? Why do we feel guilty about things like that? Please explain.....

So hopefully this weekend I will construct a wall (ha..Fred will construct a wall and I will assist.)and have everything organized. I'm going to IKEA on Sunday..this could be dangerous!

Hugs

Cleaning..or avoiding it...

I'm attempting to organize my closet office..no, really..it was a closet and I made it an office. Granted, it has a window and electricity, so that makes it a little more than your standard closet, but not much bigger. I got my desk situated in there and hung some shelves the other day. Can I just say they made sturdy houses in 1940. Much sturdier than 1980 or 1990. I had to screw the shelf brackets directly into the wall because they are covered with plank tongue and groove boards..very cool, but way tougher than drywall! My arms ached after holding that drill and working those 12 screws into the wall. UGH! But they are up..and they, surprisingly, remain up today. ;-) Now I'm just trying to organize everything..sewing stuff, scrapping stuff (mainly pictures I still have to scan in and try to organize and some odds and ends), office/bill stuff, computer stuff, kids school stuff. I could spend a weekend and a small fortune in IKEA or the Container Store right about now! So right now I am avoiding..avoiding the stacks of books outside the door, avoiding the stacks of paper waiting to be filed into a yet to be purchased filing system..don't you wish you could snap your fingers and poof, everything be organized? I know what I want, I just don't know how to get it there!

I am picking up my darling hubby at the airport tommorrow! Woohoo! Hopefully for good! I can't wait to start our "normal" life. This going back and forth between two states has been exhausting...

I have all sorts of things on the list for this weekend - decorate for fall/halloween (I patiently waited even though I wanted to do it last week!), organize the office, look for a couch....I'd really like to look for a couch. Sitting on the floor has REALLY outlived it's welcome! It doesn't even have to be a new couch, but Craigslist here has not been that helpful. I'm all about a slipcover if I need to, but it has to be comfortable with preferably no wooden edges or arms...they don't work well with running children and toddling babies!

Back to work...

10 on Tuesday

1. I like that I have to blog on Tuesday - it's been a struggle to remember lately!
2. I'm going to Lowes to get some wood to build my playroom cubbies. Say a little prayer for me that I don't hammer my hand to the cubby or totally destroy them. I'm hoping my HGTV watching comes in handy...if Carter and Ty and that girl on Extreme Home Makeover that wears pink can do it, so can I, right? Right.
3. The boys had some shots yesterday. Owen laughed. Seriously. The kid is demented. ;-) Joey was a trooper..but he definitely didn't laugh. The treat bag at the end from the nurse was a big hit though.
4. On that same note, do not ever give my boys stamps. Seriously. Owen had so many red zebras up and down his arms it took me 20 minutes of scrubbing just to dull them...yes, he went to preschool today with zebra remnants all over him.
5. Emma is loving school. She loves homework. She loves getting the little awards for good behavior. I'm so glad she's finding her spot there - she's making friends, which for Emma is not easy. She's more a "stay to herself" kind of girl..watching from the outside with that look on her face like she'd rather be anywhere but there. But she's not doing that anymore..she's really warming up to people and making friends.
6. Kaitlin starts her tumble class tonight. I really am hoping she likes it - it sounds like a perfect fit for what she's looking for.
7. Fred will be HOME on Friday night (or Saturday morning). HOME! We don't know if he'll be at Fort Gordon during the day or somewhere else, but they've told him he can be near home for his recovery. WOOHOO!
8. Kaitlin turned 12 yesterday. I'm old. Enough said. (Actually I'll say more later when I do a post for her)
9. I drove the farm truck all the way to NC the other day. It's a standard and I haven't driven one in years. I didn't stall once! Go me.
10. The grass here grows like CRAZY! I feel like I cut it every other day...ugh.
and a bonus:
11. We have family coming for Thanksgiving (hopefully!!)and Christmas (Yay, E and J!). It's going to be so fun decorating and having people around! Can't wait! :)
and another bonus..well, really a question..
12. How early is too early to decorate for fall/Halloween...all my pumpkins and stuff? Can I do that this weekend.....please?

10 on Tuesday

Here goes:
1. We are all sick. yuck. It all started with Emma but it has morphed into an ear infection for O, a confirmed ear infection today for Abby, and a nasty cold that we won't get into the details on for me. We are all on an antibiotic and the dr. prescribed a lovely narcotic cough syrup to knock me and my coughing out..however, due to the fact that Fred can't lift the kids or drive, one of us needs to be coherent enough to do so if needed, so I won't be partaking in that...Hopefully by next week we will all be feeling much better and less snot covered...hopefully.
2. Max continues to be a Houdini with the fence. He has now managed to learn how to undo his collar by pulling just the right way on his lead (added to the fenced yard b/c of his climbing ability) and boom, right over the fence. He actually knocked down a fence panel yesterday in his overweight hurry to escape the confines of the yard. We're going to have to come up with a new plan...
3. The boys and Emma are settling right into their school routines and are learning so much. Owen was singing me the alphabet the other day complete with words that start with each letter. : ) He's really thriving there and Joey has even stopped screaming bloody murder when I drop him off....
4. Kaitlin has decided to forgo cheering this year - the team wasn't all that she wanted it to be. But we signed her up for some intensive tumble classes at the Y130 in town. She'll go for an hour on Tuesday and Thursday - her goal is to have her back tuck by the end of this season - she's got her back handspring (needs a little more confidence to get it consistently), so it's a large possibility. She's also going to take a sketching class on Thursday that she's really excited about.
5. Kaitlin will turn 12 next week! I can hardly believe it...almost a teenager...I can't believe it that is until the attitude turns on. Then I have no problem believing it! ;-)
6. Fred is trying, trying, trying to get into the WTU (warrior transistion unit) here at Ft. Gordon. Since he is non-deployable due to the neck surgery and most likely (hopefully) will be medically retired since a two-level fusion is not the most ideal circumstances for a warzone (although the military is waivering so much these days), he can't continue on his current orders. BUT since he was injured while on active duty, they cover him until he is healed. Which is a big blessing (if it all works out)because he can't work until he's cleared (although he's trying to do too much now)and unemployment doesn't go a long way in feeding 7 people. Please say a little prayer for it to work out and he'll be able to stay here at home and work there during the day while he's healing. Thanks!
7. The van is still hanging in there. Woohoo.
8. I painted the boys room and SOME of Kaitlin's room..I'm hoping to finish this week.
9. I started my real estate classes and my property management classes..but I'm lacking real motivation. Hopefully I can knock some out this week.
10. Abby's walking! Yeah! She takes about 6 steps and stops and claps for herself. And she has to be in the mood to do it or she'll hang there with her feet tucked up underneath her. But we're making progress!!!

Hugs,
KT
