WFMW

Works for Me Wednesday...

We are starting something new...Fred is taking the car to work in the morning on days I don't need it, so in order to get out of the house and the kids a chance to get some energy out, we are going to try to do nightly picnics instead of eating at home. Tonight we got a small grill for the parks that don't have them and did hot dogs, fruit salad and chips. It was SO much more relaxing cooking at the park while the kids ran around on the playground...note to self: bring OFF next time! :) I'm going to have dinner prepped and ready when Fred gets home and we'll toss them into the car and head off. There are so many parks near our house and we never get to them - Clayton, Knightdale, Zebulon has an AWESOME shaded park (that's where we headed tonight), Wendell. Tommorrow the girls have cheer practice so we'll do our normal thing with the boys -either a picnic at the church next to the gym that has a playground or Pizza Inn for a treat. I've got a list of options - grilled chicken, grilled chicken sandwiches or salads (my kids are HUGE salad eaters), hamburgers, hot dogs, foil packets with meat and potatoes, grilled corn on the cob. I'll rotate sub sandwiches in there for some non-cooking nights, but my hope is that this will help our budget in huge ways. Our grocery bill is ginormous lately and then we eat out all the time on top of it - not good... so if I am "stuck" at home during the day and Fred doesn't have his debit card, and we are at the park with a picnic at night, we are really cutting down on the "have to have its"..so it's win-win-win..the kids get park time, we save money, and we're eating better. YEAH! Friday we are going to try out the Knightdale pool from 5-7 and then we'll head to the Knightdale park for some dinner. Next Friday, Knightdale Baptist is showing "Horton Hears a Who" on their lawn with free sodas and popcorn, so we'll hit the pool, dinner and then top it off with a movie! I'm starting to love summertime! That's what we hope will work for us this summer!
