Well, we are finally starting to settle in. Yes, I FINALLY painted the boys other walls gray. And it looks pretty good. I found two full size regulation hockey sticks at a thrift store here for $1!! $1!! How cool is that? I'm going to hang one over each of their windows. I'm trying to find a snowboard to hang on the other wall - a used one that someone is gettting rid of. Then I'll order their graffiti names to hang over their beds, hang the skateboards I'm using as shelves and boom, "extreme sports" room, will be done. :)
I finally hung a ton of pictures yesterday - we used the dining room for Fred's stuff - awards, etc. and the living room for the kids. I did a whole wall of pictures. I'm still figuring out what pictures I want to use in some of them, but I have the frames up so that's a positive step. Today I'm going to keep unpacking and sorting in there and maybe, maybe work on the girls room which I've completely neglected so far. There's only so many hours in a day.
I received all my registration confirmations yesterday for my classes - property management and real estate fundamentals for Georgia. The property management class is actually pretty interesting looking - it covers all leasing - residential, commercial, and industrial as well as leases, legal information, etc. Then I'll take the test and get my Georgia RE license. Since I did the NC one with no real troubles, I'm hoping to fly through this and get it done. I used the new Army Spouse funding program to pay for it. I figure if they are going to kick him out, I might as well use all the available programs now. If I have time, I'm going to do the appraisal class as well, but I have to start it before he is retired and I don't know if I'll have time. We'll see!
Emma has hand, foot and mouth. Fun. I think Joey actually brought it home b/c they had a case in his class a week ago and it has an incubation period of a week. So...she's got the blisters on her feet and one hand and a few small ones in her mouth. She was a little ornery last night, but for the most part she's handling it. Joey had a spot or two on his foot, but he's had what we thought was a cold all week and the nurse said some people don't show the outside symptoms. Abby has a spot on her hand but really nothing else. Hopefully it's a mild case...and Fred and I have immunity to it. I so do not want to deal with that on top of the cold I have and Fred's neck. Ugh.

Ten on Tuesday..well, really Monday, but I had a few minutes...
I figure I'll forget again until Thursday so I should do it now while I'm thinking about it....
1. Emma is officially an elementary school girl. She started on the 7th and is doing really well. She scored high on her pre-reading test so she works in a special group every day for an hour - pretty cool. McDuffie County is part of a special literacy program where they focus on reading and writing from the very beginning - pretty intensive, but it's been a really succesful program.
2. She's already tired of peanut butter and jelly. :)
3. Owen has been going potty on the sly. Don't ask me. He won't do it at home...or at the farm or at Judy's house..but apparently he goes all day at school, no problems. What!? We have no less than 4 options for pottying at our house - two regular toilets, a small toilet and a really cool Lightning McQueen seat, but nope, the First United Methodist Preschool toilet must be the best one because that's all he'll use. I wondered why he wasn't going through his pull-ups as quickly. Maybe I should stick Joey in that class....
4. I gave Max a bath yesterday (he's our really old chocolate lab). I was going to do Annabelle (our border collie/aussie mix) but my back was killing me so she'll wait until this weekend.
5. Fred had his surgery. The doctor said he was a mess - bone spurs, two crushed discs, hardened ligaments and a severe compression of his spinal cord. We got the address of the family that donated the bone he has in his neck now..what exactly do you write in a thank you card for something like that? I've been mulling it over all day.... Hopefully this will put him on the path to feeling much better. He's having a hard time swallowing since his throat is swollen and has a NASTY incision on the front of his throat, but they said both should go down within a week or so...
6. Ummm....Kaitlin's birthday is in 21 days. Or so I've been told. ;-)
7. Still haven't finished painting the boys room..or Kaitlin's room...or bought a couch. But I think I've narrowed it down (as soon as I find $800 laying around. :) I like the JCPenney Linden Friday in the red stripe and the rocker that matches it. I think it'll look really cute in the living room. Of course, my absolute favorite is the cream, but I'm being realistic....but a girl can dream right?
8. I'm going to build the cubbies for the playroom. Yes, you read that right. I, I am going to build them. I'm borrowing Don's nail gun and Lowes will cut wood for you so I just need to get my measurements. I've watched them doing it on HGTV and Extreme Make-over. I think I can do it. Just build boxes. I see all these women in blogland doing it. I can to. Oh, and window boxes for the front. I saw some on a house today and I know I can make some just like it.
9. Fred, Kaitlin, Abby and I toured the Tom Watson gardens across the street. It's so peaceful over there...it was weird b/c it felt like being a tourist on vacation and when you looked closely through the gardens you could see our little house. Nice to have something so close. I'd love to have a party there one time - but it's definitely going to be our picture taking spot for the kids each year - great settings even in Summer so I can only imagine how it looks in the Spring!
10. Joey is having seperation anxiety. We're working through it...
and a bonus since I missed last week:
11. I cut Abby's hair last night - just her bangs..which were the only part that was growing. The back is starting to get some wave to it and it's so light now - almost like Kaitlins. Does that count as her first haircut or does it only count if you do it somewhere?
Hugs,
Katie

Late Edition of 10 on Tuesday
I thought about it last night, but didn't have the energy. :)
1. I used to enjoy painting..must be wearing off because I'm having a REALLY hard time motivating myself into doing the last 3 walls of the boys room.
2. I do, however, like the orange that I painted the one wall. And I think I'll like the gray with it....someday.
3. Emma had her physical and shots on Saturday. Passed everything with flying colors. I think it's sad that they do BMI on little kids now. If they are over a certain percentage, they flag them to watch. It's a sad commentary on the state of our country when you have to check the BMI of a 5 year old.
4. School can't start soon enough..for me anyway. Emma, I think, is getting a little worried. She told me last night that school was stupid(her new adjective for everything lately) because who wants to stay away from their mom all day long and not do fun stuff. I was under the impression that we didn't do much "fun stuff" anyway, so I was a little happy to hear that she'd miss me. :)
5. She then decided to let me know exactly what she thinks about what we now call the "stupid Army". She hates it, too. It "takes dad's away from their kids". Fortunately I was able to tell her that it wouldn't last for much longer..I didn't tell her that it meant Daddy would be unemployed and the stupid Army was really much stupider than she thought....
6. I'm traveling back to Raleigh this weekend with the kiddos to finish packing up and cleaning up. It's weird going back there..sort of like I'm stuck in two places that I know pretty well and I don't really belong to either one.
7. The van is still falling apart. We can't decide whether to attempt the repair ourselves or have someone do it. I hate spending that much money on a repair when the car is not worth it. But I don't want to buy a new car either. (Don't get me wrong - I WANT a new car, I just don't WANT the payments that go along with it and this one is almost paid for)
8. I hate Fred not being here.
9. Abby is doing great walking with a hand, her toy, the cat..just not on her own. Her new favorite thing to do - Ring around the Rosy. You can say stand up and she'll stand up and fall back down on her tush. It's so funny. You sing the song and she'll rock back and forth, stand up and drop back down. Too cute! Of course, it's a little less cute the 100 times the kids make her do it. She's like a little sideshow at the fair..I should charge them admission. ;-)
10. I'm tired...trying to think of a tenth thing. I miss Chick-fil-a. I used to hate eating out so much, but right now I'm dying for some Chick-fil-a Strips Salad...and it's in Augusta. 30 minutes away. Much too far to walk.....hmm....

10 on Tuesday time
Here goes:
1. The kids LOVE the new house. The girls think their space upstairs is so cool and the boys have been playing in their room so much more than they did before. The playroom has been a big hit also. We've played in the yard some, but it's been pretty hot so I anticipate that being a big hit this fall. Emma's already broken out the sidewalk chalk and decorated under the carport.
2. The dogs continue to be an issue. Maggie doesn't like the hardwoods and has apparently eaten something bad so I woke up at 2 o'clock this morning only to have to clean out her crate..and I mean drag it outside and hose it off clean it out. Max and Belle are still barking at night occassionally and since we are so close to the neighbors and they have a barking dog that sets ours off, I've been putting them in the garage at night with food and letting them out in the morning. It's working for now, but Fred's going to put a doggie door on the back of the garage for them so I don't have to walk them around it every night. Maggie will eventually be able to hang out in the main backyard during the day once Fred shores up the fence a little bit. Hopefully she worked the stomach bug out last night and I won't have another night like that again..yuck.
3. Fred is back in Raleigh for the week. Doctors appointments, drill, etc. I'm going up Thursday to pick up the van and drive it back for the mechanic I found here. It does okay at higher speeds so it's safe to drive on 95. I'll hopefully have it back next week sometime if all goes well. It can either be a $700 repair or a $2000 rebuild...fingers crossed for the obvious choice.
4. It sucks not having a car. Really, it does. It's really hard to go from driving all over the place anytime you want to having to depend on someone for a ride to the store.
5. I am SO thankful for the help of my family - it's made it a little bit more bearable. I've had groceries delivered, a trip to Target today (thank god for my sanity!;-), Kaitlin had a ride to cheerleading. Fred has a pick-up truck complete with moving trailer attached in NC waiting for me to come up next weekend and get another load.
6. I've met five of our neighbors so far. One brought me a cake, the other (right next door with two boys) promised to catch me up on all the mom's groups and playdates, the one right behind us is the winningest high school football coach in the state. Another works for the methodist church and lives on the property and said to use the playground at night and weekends when the preschool wasn't using it. :) Nice neighbors, I'm trying hard to come out of my shell and be social. It's a struggle, but I'm trying.
7. The kids LOVE living this close to their cousins. J & R and Alyssa come over and play with them and hang out. (I have a glimpse of what my food shopping will be like when O and Joey get older :) Rebecca came into town this weekend and we had a big spaghetti dinner at our house and then all walked to get ice cream. It was nice.
8. Fred is going to work with my uncle on the farm when he gets out. That was a big load off of his shoulders - trying to find work right now is impossible. This way we'll have pretty much the same income and insurance (if he can get a disability from the Guard).
9. The boys start full-time preschool on the 10th right next door at the Methodist church. They'll eat lunch in the cafeteria, recess on the playground. They use an ABEKA curriculum so it should help Owen with structure. Abby can start when she's walking INDEPENDENTLY.
10. Emma starts K on August 7th. We packed her backpack yesterday. She's so excited! We have an open house on the 6th. I haven't told her yet that she's getting shots at her physical on Saturday...might dampen the enthusiasm just a little bit. :(

Moving Update
Well, we are all here and boxes are everywhere! :) The kitchen and bathroom are pretty much unpacked, the bedrooms are getting there and then all the decorating will be next weeks list. Fred's tackling the to-do list - he hooked up the appliances, worked on the dishwasher, fixed the mailbox, set up furniture. Today he's working on the dog pen for Max and Annabelle who have been living in the garage for the last few days..time to let them loose. The fence needs some shoring up and the weeds in the back trimmed down, so when that's done they'll be good to go. The cat is slowly but surely coming around..she still spends a majority of the time hiding under the bed up in the girls room, but I see her sneaking around from time to time. The kids LOVE it! Emma has been drawing with her chalk under the carport, the boys have been playing in the playroom and Abby spends everyday dirty because she's pulling herself all over the floors..that I haven't mopped yet. Kaitlin started with her new cheer team - TCB Bulldogs - and seems to really enjoy it. They have some fun events coming up and then the normal competitions so we'll be on the road with that soon I'm sure. Fred has to go back to Raleigh Sunday to finish up work and submit all his medical paperwork to the units, so he's bummed about that. But it's only for a little while, so it will be okay. Emma starts school on the 7th - we got her school supplies the other day, she's pumped! We walked to the ice cream parlor last night after dinner - it was so fun walking there with the kids! We passed the library and the movie theater - I can't wait until they are old enough to really appreciate how close everything is! On our way back, we passed the police station - it's about 2 blocks over from us and they had hundreds of bats flying out of a crack in the building! So all us girls took off running (bats+long hair=not pretty sight!), while the boys watched them snatching up bugs. Creepy and cool at the same time! :) I love pretty much everything about the house so far - the way we can hear the church bells during the day, the details and the space, the way the sun comes in and brightens everything up. They put a sign up across the street at the Tom Watson house yesterday - Tom Watson Watermelon Festival, August 1. They have seed spitting contests, watermelon rolling, arts and crafts and more. We might try to go for a little bit - seeing how it's right across the street. Then in August they are having some sort of concert there also - a fundraiser for something. I love being so close to everything! Will add pictures later - have to find the camera cord.

More complaining....
So, it wasn't the simple $300 part..oh, no, it couldn't be that simple, could it? Nope, the numbers the sensor is giving are all correct so that means it's somewhere else in the transmission - like a broken gear since it's skipping 2nd and going from 1st to 3rd...remember learning to drive a standard and the wonderful noise it would make when you forgot to shift..yep, that's me. $350 to pull it all apart and locate the problems. Then another $1500-$1900 to rebuild and put it back in. Yep, $2000...for a car worth $4000 on a good day. And it needs new shocks/struts. Yeah. I've been repeating to myself all day "what doesn't kill you" and "god doesn't give you anything you can't handle" and "there are no problems, only solutions." So far the only really good solution I've come up with is robbing a bank..or driving it off a cliff. Teasing, only teasing! I guess I should take some comfort in the fact that I get to drive a new (rental) car all week...something new for the kids to destroy. :)

10 on Tuesday...all complaints...be warned
1. Transmissions suck. Really they do. Cars do for that matter...who thought it was a good idea to have a computer control everything and have that computer send out error messages...that may or may not really be the problem and you still have to tear everything apart anyway? All it does is make the parts more expensive.
2. Yes, our transmission is having problems. I have an appointment at 4 to find out if it's the simple $300 fix (shift solenoid) or something more expensive...like a total rebuild because of a broken gear ($1200)and a computer problem sending the wrong info to the tranny (another $100000000). Say a little prayer please...
3. The person across the street that is turning his woods into a pasture woke me up again at 5 am with bulldozers and dump trucks beeping. I seriously thought about going over and beating him...but I was too tired and my back hurt from packing.
4. The boys are totally riled from the whole moving experience so their sleep schedules are all over the place. Owen went to bed (FINALLY) at 11 last night..only to wake up at 4 this morning. Woohoo.
5. I think Joey may be getting a summer cold..his nose is a little runny and he's whiney. Hopefully it's only allergies from all the dust I'm kicking up in the closets and under beds.
6. Abby is getting her top tooth so she's a little clingy this week...makes packing and lugging boxes really easy. :)
7. The upstairs A/C at the new house has a problem. We are fighting(not really, Tina's been really helpful) the A/C company and the realtors because they both said it was checked, fixed, etc. Hopefully it will be fixed by next week or the girls are going to be sweaty! ;-) I am thankful that there are two units at the house - makes my room nice and cool....
8. Fred definitely has sleep apnea - woke up 200 times the first test, only 20 the second time with the CPAP machine. He felt so much better. Now we are just waiting for his prescription to get a machine..of course, the Army will kick him out now. He also had 14 central apneas which means his brain isn't sending the messages to his body to breathe while he's sleeping ..interestingly this can be caused my cervical changes or brainstem injuries...hopefully when he gets his neck/spine fixed, it will help with that also....
9. We move in 6 days (counting today)...I need about 50.
10. Emma starts Kindergarton in 3 1/2 weeks...she's so big already! WOW!
Hopefully next week will be a much happier list...but since we will have spent all day moving, waiting for the Dish Network guy to bring us the Disney Channel, and dealt with the a/c, I wouldn't hold my breath..of course, I could do a 10 things I love about my new house list... :)
